Art Lesson Plans Sept.18-22

Art 1

Line/Pattern/Color design-Due end of class Tuesday with color completed

Students will first draw 3-5 different types of cactus.  I will have step by step loaded in google classroom.

Once they have drawn their cactus, they will then fill in with zentangle patterns inside of the cactus and in the background.

Next, they will need to outline everything in black sharpie.

They will then choose to use markers or watercolors to add color. Samples will be in google classroom for them.

Students will receive a cube on white card stock

They will design 2 of the three sides about them.  They will need to add color to them.  The area that is marked with an X they will need to color in with black sharpie

Once, completed they will cut the cube out and we will assemble a large mural in the hallway with the cubes.

Art 2

Scratchboards

Students will select a photograph of an animal
*Next, students will draw the photograph, working out the elements of the composition and lighting
*Trace over their drawing on their scratchboard to make an impression of their image.
*Decide and experiment with the textures you will use within the different objects. Try the textures out on a piece of scrap board.
*Now you are ready to start scratching . Do not out line your image. Begin by building a faint values around or within an object with dots or short dashes.
*As you work you will gradually begin to build lighter values. Pay close attention to how the light falls on your photograph. You must establish a light source.

Art 3/4

Flip Books

We will watch 4 Youtube videos of complete flip books.  This will show the students of the progression and movement needed.

They will sketch out a rough outline on a sheet of paper of 25-30 squares, so I will have a basic idea of their concept.

Next they will be give a 90 page flip book to draw and then add color to the finished product

Competition Track Students

Students will begin working on their artwork for the Ft Worth Stock Show

Supplies: rulers, composition book, white prisma color, flip books, pencils, xacto knives, scratchboards, animal images, watercolors, colored pencils

Resources: Chrome books, handouts, books, design pages

Evaluation: rubric

Art 1

Multiple Optical Illusion Spirals

*Students will divide their paper into 6 even sections
*Students will then divide  each section into 4 section giving you 24 sections
*In each triangle they will use the same technique and rules as they did on the project above, it will not look anything like the above project.

Students will Select several pumpkins to create a composition to draw on a large  black sheet of construction paper.  I have several examples that are uploaded in google classroom that they can choose from.

Art 3/4

*Next, students will draw an angle that goes from skinny too fat.
*The next line starts where your last line stops.
*Students will Continue to work their way around the square till they reach the center.
*Once completed they will choose a light and a dark color and alternate the colors through their design.
*ALWAYS START WHERE YOUR LAST LINE STOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next, they will lay down several base colors on their circle completely covering the surface.

Then they will then paint the contour lines for glass pieces on the disco ball using a light color.

They will use a reference photo to lay in their variety of colors to create the disco ball.

* Students will draw a profile of a face the right side of their paper and then they will draw a mirror image of the profile on the left side of their paper.
* They will then connect the two profiles and create a vase
*Next, students will draw different types of shapes, lines, patterns, etc. in the positive part of the vase. To create a unique design.
* They will need to fill in their designs with a sharpie.
* When all color and sharpie is added then they will cut the faces leaving only the negative vase shape.

Once drawn, they will begin to lay in their 5 values in their drawing.  They must repeat each value a minimum of three times each.

*Examples will be loaded in their google classroom

Next, they will lay down several base colors on their circle completely covering the surface.

Then they will then paint the contour lines for glass pieces on the disco ball using a light color.

*Students will receive a handout and discuss what they see in each image and how it works

*Students will receive a handout that half of the image is drawn.
*They will have to redraw the image on the opposite side of the page.
*It will be a mirrored image.

Welcome Back

WELCOME BACK TO A NEW SCHOOL YEAR!!

I am looking forward to a great new school year in Art.  I hope you are ready to get down and messy. We will cover everything from drawing, color theory, sculpture, pastels, collage, printmaking and so much more. I am looking forward to seeing what new inspiring artist I will have this year. I love to paint with acrylic and watercolor!!!  I hope to inspire and mold new artists in the making.  I know everyone is not a Picasso or a Michelangelo, but there is an artist in everyone!!!!

This is my 31st year to teach Art and my 18th at White Oak High School (I know I am getting old, but I love what I do :). I am a graduate of Texas Tech University, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. GO RED RAIDERS and originally from South Louisiana so I am a huge fan of LSU also GEAUX TIGERS!

I am also the student council advisor and would love for you to join if you are interested.

*Once complete glue edges together except bottom and stuff with pillow stuffing
*Glue pillow closed
