Monday – Holiday

Art 1

POSITIVE/NEGATIVE VASE FACE **Need Black sharpie- Due at the end of class Tuesday

* Students will draw a profile of a face the right side of their paper and then they will draw a mirror image of the profile on the left side of their paper.
* They will then connect the two profiles and create a vase
*Next, students will draw different types of shapes, lines, patterns, etc. in the positive part of the vase. To create a unique design.
* They will need to fill in their designs with a sharpie.
* When all color and sharpie is added then they will cut the faces leaving only the negative vase shape.

CONTOUR DRAWINGS
* Blind Contour/Contour Drawings of their hand and shoe
*Students will first work on a blind contour (they will place a hole in the center of a scratch sheet of paper and then place that sheet of paper on a pencil.)
*This will not allow the student to look at what they are drawing
* Contour drawings are an excellent way to train the eye to draw what they really see rather than what they think is there.
*Students will pick a point on their hand and slowly journey around the contour or edge (blind contour)
*Remember when the eye begins to move so should the pencil. Do not pick up your pencil. Do not panic if your drawing of your ha d looks more like a squashed beetle.

Art 2, 3, 4

Homecoming Auction – drawings and paintings                                                                 *Students will begin designing their images for the homecoming art auction.   You  may draw, paint, collage, etc

Supplies: rulers, worksheets, pencils, scissors, paint, tagboard

Resources: Chrome books, handouts, books, design pages
Evaluation: rubric

Modifications: Extended time of completion of assignment

Finish All about me worksheet and turn in

Creativity Test*   Students will have several different worksheets that has different shapes on it and they have to create something they see out of that shape.  I want to see where your creativity takes you.

Right/Left Brain Test

*Students will take a R/L Brain test to see what hemisphere they learn with.
*Next, we will discuss the different sides of the brain and their characteristics.

Experiencing the shift from the left to the Right
*Students will receive a handout and discuss what they see in each image and how it works

Art 2, 3, 4

12” Ruler (clear recommend)

4 bottles of craft acrylic – colors of your choice (Brands like Americana, Apple Barrel, etc.) You can find these at Walmart, Hobby Lobby or Michaels. They are normally anywhere from $.50-1.00  **These will be turned into Mrs. Taylor

Package of different size paint brushes

Composition Book 

All supplies will be kept in the art room. Make sure you label all supplies!!!!

2 Black Fine Tip Sharpies & 1 Black extra Fine Tip Sharpie

Ruler

Sketchbook (I would like it to have multi media pages) no smaller than 8×10  (you can find these at Michaels, Hobby Lobby or on Amazon)

**Optional if you want your own Colored Pencils Min. 24 colors (Prang or Scholar preferred) & Hand Held Pencil Sharpener

Package of Paint Brushes (variety of sizes)

2 16×20 Canvases (left at home for now, these will be for 2nd semester)

10 bottles of craft acrylic ( 2 bottles of each color (so 5 colors) that you want to use for a poured paint project) Brands like Americana, Apple Barrel, etc. (you will need this 2nd semester)

Art 3 – box of quart zip lock bags  & 1- box of Press n Seal

Art 4- box of gallon zip lock bags & package of 100 styrofoam plates

WELCOME BACK TO A NEW SCHOOL YEAR!!

I am looking forward to a great new school year in Art.  I am so excited about our Art Department being named 2023-2024 District of Distinction from TAEA.  Only 96 schools in the state of Texas have earned this honor.

I hope you are ready to get down and messy. We will cover everything from drawing, color theory, sculpture, pastels, collage, printmaking and so much more. I am looking forward to seeing what new inspiring artist I will have this year. I love to paint with acrylic and watercolor!!!  I hope to inspire and mold new artists in the making.  I know everyone is not a Picasso or a Michelangelo, but there is an artist in everyone!!!!

This is my 32nd year to teach Art and my 19th at White Oak High School (I know I am getting old, but I love what I do :). I am a graduate of Texas Tech University, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. GO RED RAIDERS and originally from South Louisiana so I am a huge fan of LSU also GEAUX TIGERS!

I am also the student council advisor and would love for you to join if you are interested.
